TNT Parcels Distribution Centre, Linwood

This major logistics project involved the construction of a comprehensive parcels distribution centre for TNT at Linwood, west of Glasgow. The facility comprises 2100m² of warehouse space and 1100m² of office floor areas, with extensive external concrete yard areas designed to support high-volume parcel sorting and distribution operations.

The structural engineering solution provided large-span warehouse spaces optimized for parcel handling equipment and automated sorting systems. The office areas were designed to support operational management and customer service functions. The extensive concrete yard areas were engineered to handle heavy vehicle traffic and loading operations, with appropriate drainage and surface finishes for all-weather operations.

Key engineering challenges included designing for the dynamic loading conditions of parcel sorting equipment and heavy vehicle circulation. The integration of warehouse, office, and yard areas required careful planning to optimize operational flow while maintaining structural efficiency. The project demanded coordination of multiple service systems to support 24/7 logistics operations.

The completed facility provides TNT with a strategically located distribution hub that efficiently serves the Glasgow area and wider Scotland. The design successfully balances operational requirements with structural performance, creating a facility that supports high-volume parcel processing while maintaining cost-effective construction and operational efficiency.
