Detailed information about the Altens East Recycling and Recovery Centre project
Project Overview
Redeveloping Material Recycling Facility (MRF) and refurbishing Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facilities after 2022 fire. Reconstructing 9,457m² building with modern systems.
Technical Details
The project involves comprehensive reconstruction including foundation work, structural steel installation, concrete floors, mechanical/electrical systems, fire detection/suppression, odor and dust mitigation, and sustainable drainage designs. The facility is designed with a 25-year design life and full UK building regulation compliance.
Challenges
Rebuilding after the devastating 2022 fire required complete reconstruction while maintaining operational requirements for modern waste processing. The project demanded careful integration of advanced fire safety systems and environmental controls.
Outcomes
The reconstructed facility will provide state-of-the-art waste processing capabilities with enhanced safety systems and environmental protection measures, supporting Aberdeen's long-term waste management strategy.
