The Kibble School, Paisley

An extensive ongoing redevelopment of The Kibble School Campus spanning seventeen years from 1995 to 2012, encompassing multiple phases of construction and renovation. The comprehensive programme included various classroom extensions, a new sports complex, education block, multi-purpose hall and canteen facilities, transforming the campus into a modern educational environment for students with additional support needs.

The structural engineering approach accommodated diverse building types across multiple construction phases while maintaining continuous educational operations. The sports complex required large-span construction with specialized flooring and ventilation systems. The education block and classroom extensions demanded flexible learning spaces with enhanced accessibility features. The multi-purpose hall was designed for varied uses including assemblies, performances and community events, requiring adaptable acoustic and structural solutions.

The primary engineering challenge was managing a seventeen-year phased development programme with project values ranging from £0.1 million to £8.5 million while maintaining specialized educational services for students with additional support needs. Each phase required careful integration with existing facilities and services while providing enhanced educational environments. The diverse building types, from intimate classroom spaces to large sports facilities, demanded varied structural approaches and coordination with multiple architectural practices over the extended timeline.

The completed redevelopment programme successfully transformed The Kibble School into a comprehensive modern educational campus that effectively serves students with additional support needs.
