Project Overview
Detailed information about the Glendronach Distillery – Cask Storage Warehouses project
Project Overview
With Glendronach Distillery's production growing, Benraich Distillery Company needed additional cask storage close to the existing site. MacLeod+Jordan provided project management, architecture, civil & structural engineering, principal designer and quantity surveying services to deliver it.
Technical Details
The £11 million scheme comprises three 4,000m² cask storage warehouses, complete with sprinkler tanks, a pump house and a forklift charging building, together with associated access roads and yards. The warehouses are simple portal frame buildings on traditional pad foundations bearing onto engineered fill platforms, fitted out with fire sprinkler systems and cask racking.
Challenges
The only land available adjacent to the distillery was constrained by a steep incline across the site and a flood plain in the lower-lying areas, an opportunity that had previously been overlooked as unbuildable.
Outcomes
Detailed cut-and-fill analysis and flood plain modelling turned the constrained site into an economically viable location, maximising storage capacity while giving the client value for money. Early collaboration with the sprinkler and racking suppliers ensured a smooth handover between work packages.
